Successful tobacco campaign reported in western Cuba

Havana, Mar 23 (Prensa Latina) Authorities of the Cuban tobacco sector reported today a successful campaign of this leaf in the western province of Pinar del Río, the most important in the country in the collection of said product.
The local newspaper Guerrillero, added that the peasants of that area fulfilled the plan of 15,800 hectares of tobacco for the current productive period. They indicate that they planted 16,189 hectares and sowing continues.

According to the agricultural specialist of the Tabacuba group in Pinar del Rio, Virginio Morales, there they accumulate 85 percent of the collection plan planned to date.

He added that a total of 102 selected and 13 micro-selected with around 3,400 workers are engaged in the processing of the leaf, and 2,445 tons are reached. Since the end of December, more than a thousand workers have been incorporated into this work.

In the western region of the country, most of the tobacco leaf dedicated to the layer of Premium cigars is harvested, handmade, for export, a luxury product claimed in most international markets.
